Rapp sold the land to the socialist visionary and textile businessman, Robert Owen. However in 1824, Rapp led the Harmonists back to Pennsylvania to be closer to eastern markets and communities with higher German populations. The Harmonists believed in nonviolence, the imminent second coming of Jesus, and celibacy. After a brief settlement in Pennsylvania, the Harmony Society established themselves in the Indiana territory.
